The Pinella grape
The Pinella grape
A weekend dedicated to Pinella, a native white grape grown exclusively in the Euganean Hills (Italy) and in the Vipava Valley (Slovenia).
The Pin&Là event was born from the desire of two Euganean producers to bring Pinella back into the spotlight — a native variety now scarcely cultivated, but once a key player in the winemaking tradition of the Euganean Hills. During the event, guests will have the opportunity to taste different interpretations of this grape, shaped by diverse soils, climates and winemaking styles.
The Pinella grape
Pinella is a white grape variety believed to have originated in the southern Dalmatian islands, with records of its presence in the Euganean Hills dating back to the 14th century. Over the centuries it has experienced periods of popularity and decline, until renewed interest in the early 2000s as part of a project to recover ancient native varieties. In the 1970s and 1980s, it was mainly used in blends to lend freshness, but in the last 15 years, intriguing single-varietal expressions have started to emerge. The great soil and climate diversity of the Euganean Hills allows the variety to show different nuances, always with a strong varietal character. Pinella is known for its high acidity, delicate floral and fruity notes and late ripening, which enables it to reach balance even in the hottest and driest vintages. Thanks to its natural freshness, Pinella proves to be a particularly suitable variety in the face of current climate challenges.
Two immersive days await, with walk-around tastings and guided sessions, to explore the identity and potential of the Pinella grape, both in the Euganean Hills and the Vipava Valley.
